This is a beautiful book. It’s my first read of O’Neil’s work and I am enamored by their creativity. This is a book that creates room for the reader to fall into and live in.
The worldbuilding is magnificent. I was immediately drawn into the world, and the setting gradually unfolds and gently offers more backstory through very natural plot progression. I was surprised by how little dialogue was used. It’s a graphic novel that speaks very little, but says a lot.
The art is beautiful. The characters felt so real, and the lighting emanated from the pages, causing the book to glow. The character designs are distinct but cohesive as a group. So much is communicated in the facial expressions, landscapes, and paneling. I love all of the characters. Their personalities, their struggles, their emotions, the ways they support each other. It’s such a warm community.
I loved the story(and, how much of it is told visually.)The pacing was wonderful. It was a very emotional, enchanting, uplifting, relatable, and inspiring story.
