A Feast for Crows
by George R.R. Martin
I listened to this volume on audiobook, which you can download from your local library, FYI. There was a greater focus on fewer characters which Martin tries to explain at the end of the book as a better way to split this book from the next. Seemed more like a decision that was made after writing without much of a focus on the work as a whole and how the reader would approach it. Because of the focus on less interesting characters as times the book felt like doing push-ups in the snow. However, it is worth reading if you have made it this far. I for one cannot stop in the middle of a series. Sam's character was greatly expanded on which was nice. Also this volume diverges pretty greatly from the HBO series which was appreciated, the first three books felt like I was reading the script with too many flagons of wine and minor characters who were fodder in battle, or just vanish entirely. All in all it was underwhelming, but worth reading for the series as a whole, which I have enjoyed.
