The Final Revival of Opal & Nev by Dawnie Walton
3.0
I would give this book 2 stars since I consider it more of a 2 1/2, BUT there are a lot of racist people giving this book one star. Which it definitely does not deserve. So I’m rounding up instead of down like I usually do to balance out the butthurt Karens who think “All Lives Matter” is a thing.
I am so bummed, because I really wanted to like this book. It has so many things I enjoy reading: Historical Fiction, Musicians, NYC, and a Black debut author! I rarely get so many of my favorite subjects rolled into one book.
But this book is so. Slow. I found myself not wanting to pick it up, as if it was a piece of required reading from one of my English teachers. Minor details of the plot that had to be confirmed by two or three other characters; I can only read the same thing so many times.
I did finish the book, but I zoned out so many times that I could barely tell you want happened.
