Holy shit this book fucked me up. It was amazing. It was tragic.
Your heart breaks for the parents, for Lil escaping her family and finding Al to find greatness and community together. You initially feel bad for the kids being put and born into that family. Your heart swells when you understand the sincerity with which they love themselves and their siblings and their uniqueness. And your heart breaks again as it all falls apart.
This book blew my mind in its boldness. I’ve haven’t felt sick reading a book in a long time. All emotions aside, it was an incredibly compelling plot, full of jealousy, love, family and suspense in all the right places. (Except maybe there was family in some *wrong* places). The author did a great job bleeding sections of the story together so huge plot shifts would happen seamlessly. I felt like I just had blinked and there was a cult following the family around!
I really felt inspired by all of the kids. Arty’s pride, Oly’s devotion, the real expression (fucked up as it is) of family. It just really tugged at my soul. I cared a lot about this family.
