It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover

3.0

Not my genre, not really the book for me.

I kind of felt like I was reading something written for my aunts? It felt ~old to me? Like the author was reaching way back in her memory to what twenty-something’s are into and made some bad guesses along the way. Outrageously beefy arms? Steampunk flowers? Rich people donating to “charity” and counting themselves good? Nah

I guess there is a possibility that I’m just coming to this book too late. It was published in 2016 and a lot has changed since then. I’ve changed a lot since then.

On that note, it was kind of fun to think about Ellen as someone who helps lonely kids feel joy and not as someone who is a very bad boss and is also complicit in the sexual harassment of her employees. Kind of ironic that she appeared so often in a book about abuse.

I’m proud of the author for using her platform to talk about domestic abuse, gun violence, homelessness, and how joining the military is often the only option for poor teens.

Lastly, I had fun reading this one. My first romance! It does make me wonder if other books in this genre have characters with names like Lily Blossom Bloom and Ryle Kincaid though. Lol.
