Dark Age by Pierce Brown

5.0

Bleak, bleak, bleak.

This one very nearly jumped the shark, but managed to right itself just in time.

Somehow Pierce Brown got himself out a legit Meereenese knot, and he did so impressively. Fantastic highs and tremendous lows in this book. Some of the violence was obscene, and some parts made me question if it was necessary. No better example than the maliciousness of an antagonist going so fully Silence of the Lambs that it made me queasy. A portion of this book goes from typical Red Rising action to full on terrifying horror in space, so that’s a nice feather in the author’s cap.

5/5, would recommend, now bring on Light Bringer.
