The Centre has a compelling premise and delivers a surprising twist, with intriguing themes around language, inherited trauma, and identity. I appreciated the meta elements and moments of sharp dialogue, and the audiobook brought the story to life for me. But some plot choices and characters felt underdeveloped, and the exploration of power, culture, and status didn’t quite land for me. I wanted it to go deeper. A thought-provoking read, but one that left me a little adrift by the end.
I appreciated the interview with the author which was provided at the end of the audiobook because i feel like it gave me what I was missing from my reading of the book.
