Magic Burns by Ilona Andrews

5.0

Let me just say that this book demonstrates what urban fantasy should be. It has lots of engaging action that kept me enthralled throughout the book.

The characters are interesting, distinctive with each of them possessing their own voice. I never was confused about who was talking because I could just tell by the dialog. This is hard and as such extremely impressive.

The story was great for two key reasons:
1. The way the plot was introduced and played out was at the perfect pace. You never felt that the author was running through it nor did you feel like she was just stringing you along.

2. Kate's mysterious background continues to be filled in, admittedly slowly but tantalizingly. I am confident that Douglas will not treat her past as a deus ex machina plot resolver and I am confident that this will be fleshed out as I continue to read (and I will) these stories.

When I finished reading the book I was super-satisfied with what I had just read and eager and impatient to read the next.
