Lily's time is running out before her first heat as she nears her twenty-first birthday. She would love nothing more than to find her own pack, preferably with some members of the club her stepfather runs, but he's declared her off limits to everyone. When new members join the club, including her stepbrother, Lily looks to them to make a pack of her own. When secrets are revealed that threaten to tear the club apart, Lily and her men must work together to get to the truth.
I've been putting off writing this review for awhile because I simply don't want to do it π₯²
Before I start, let me preface by saying that I adore Sarah and her writing. She was my most read author in 2023 and at least three of her books were in my top 20 reads. I've loved my chats with Sarah on Instagram and she's put up with my 88 million niche questions/what if scenarios. I say all this because I'm a big fan of hers and the way she writes.
I was excited for this book, especially as a Sons of Anarchy fan, but unfortunately, I didn't care for this book. It pains me to say that because I wanted to love. It felt like there were a bunch of ideas put together that were underdeveloped and made the story feel jumbled and messy. It was also unnecessarily long and repetitive, which made my investment in the story low.
I didn't care for Lily at all. I get that she was shielded a lot by her stepfather, but I felt like her strength and development could have developed over the story, but it didn't. She was just annoying and one dimensional. Sarah has written a character similar to Lily (Liv from Omega's Obsession), but her development paid off in the end. Unfortunately, Lily's did not.
I felt like Lily didn't have a connection with any of her men. I did not like how she treated Cash during her heat. Major ick from her. I was also disappointed in Axel. He was marketed as an unhinged Beta, but honestly, he felt kind of tame. Maybe he was built up too much in my head, but if a character is billed as unhinged/does morally grey things, I expect them to be pretty wild or it doesn't fit the description.
I will definitely give the next book a shot because I know Sarah writes great stories.
Thank you to Sarah Blue for the early copy.
