How to Disappear Completely by Ali Standish

5.0

Reviewed from an ARC.

But she doesn't understand how the pages in my books leave space for you to crawl into them and dream up your own stories, instead of trying to cram your head so full of big words there's no room left for you at all

There's a lot of reasons I relate to main character in this one. Not for any of the major story points as described in the plot synopsis. Instead, it's in the details; small moments like the one above where Emma professes a love of recreational reading, her description of insomnia or the way a friend reacts to stress. Yes some of the plot and mystery are a bit predictable, but few stories aren't. The joy of this one is in the journey.

I had no expectations going into this book. This is rare as I usually research the crap out of books and authors before I invest the time. But I've never heard of Ali Standish and the ARC basically fell into my lap. I'm happy it did. I figured this for a gradual read and instead devoured it in a day. Consider Standish an author I'll invest time in going forward.
