Beasts of Prey
by Ayana Gray
3.5ish stars. Has some great moments and some obvious ones. Parts are a little longer than maybe necessary. It is a bit slow to start with but I liked the introduction to the various beasts even though they didnt play a role in the story after the beginning which felt like a bit of a waste. The plot twists were pretty easy for me to figure out, nothing too surprising. I did love all the myth type of elements, especially since these aren't myth areas I am familiar with.
I liked Koffi, she was a good character to follow. She grows as she learns what she is. I still dont love the trope of parents hiding all the truths from the characters but oh well.
Ekon and his anxiety with OCD counting tendencies was also an interesting character. He was a believable teenager type character. He was annoying in his everyone else's fault but mine attitude but overall he grew on me.
Adiah was fascinating and I quite enjoyed her chapters with her "magic" lessons and everything that goes along with it.
Loved the narration for this. Having 3 different narrators brought something extra to the story. Enjoyed it enough to be looking forward to the next book.
