I had heard about this book on the New York Times podcast of their top ten books of 2023, and the writing (translation?) was indeed beautiful. It's a gripping story about a Russian conscript trying to escape as he rides the trans-Siberian railroad, and the French woman who tries to help him. Given the war between Russia and Ukraine, it felt very timely. You could probably read the entire book in 90 minutes (anyone who is looking to meet their reading goal!) and it would be worthwhile!
