Teen Titans: Earth One, Vol. 1 by Jeff Lemire

3.0

A fun reimagining of the origins for the Teen Titans! Fast-paced with a lot of unique twists on what we’d usually expect.

”You’ve always known what you are. You’re a bird. A beautiful Raven.”

I love the new designs for them a lot. Raven is stunning in particular and offers some Indigenous rep with her guardian being a Navajo elder. I loved Garfield too, as always, and I liked his belief in and love for his parents. The inclusion of Terra and Joey spiced it all up a little as it’s not the usual team we expect to see!

I did find some of the plot quite predictable and I didn’t like the weird hypocrisy of some of these characters. Like, they seemed to flip flop between “I’m not your real parent” and “I care about you because I’m your parent” which made no sense to me. It actually got kind of grating as I kept reading - because they all kept saying the same things.

However! I liked the setup of this and look forward to the next one. Especially now that my favorite of all, Starfire, is fully in the picture!
