The Secret River by Kate Grenville
5.0
This book was four stars until the ending that made me cry.
"his children's children would walk about on the floorboards, and never know what was beneath their feet."
I love the way Grenville manages to honour the Aboriginal people in everything that they are while telling such a horrific story through the perspective of white settlers who thought them only savages. I love that she dedicated the book to the Aboriginal people of Australia: past, present, and future.
This is our Australia, but will we ever know what's truly beneath our feet?
