Family Family by Laurie Frankel

Laurie Frankel does it again. Another completely engrossing story, with fully realized characters and backstories. LF does seem to love her a precocious kid and often writes them a little bit young (Fig and Jack are more like 7 than 10 year olds; Bex feels more like a 13/14 than a 16), but I think that's part of the charm of her characters and stories. I love how she takes very fraught, complex topics - in this case, what it truly means to be pro-choice, and an in-depth exploration of adoption - and explores them in very emotionally charged but still incredibly factual, realistic ways. For every bit of fantasticism, there is a grounded sense of reality running through it. In the running for one of my favorite reads of the year (unsurprising, since This Is How It Always Is held that title, too).
