vanmeers 's review for:
this was a tough read even when you already know the horrors that were committed by the nazis during ww2 — this is detailed and personal retelling of several jewish women’s stories as they fought back against the nazis and german soldiers. it’s a deeply harrowing read both because of what happened during ww2, but also when contrasting it with what’s happening in gaza right now.
there’s a lot of talk about zionism and travelling to palestine for their freedom in this which is obviously an important part of these women’s stories — but it’s still wild to read this, read about one of the women joining the idf, and just knowing the horrors they went through are being repeated in gaza rn and i wish there had been some sort of note on palestine by the author.
anyway, it’s still extremely informative and i think reading about what these women — and other prisoners — went through is necessary in this day and age.
