I usually like stream of consciousness writing but in this one it felt muddled and convoluted with a lot of impulsive thoughts coming in and out of the narrative which took me out of the book every time…
I really appreciated the parallels between Clarissa and Septimus but for some reason Septimus parts were boring me… His madness wasn’t mad enough to me and I heard about him more from others than himself which I would have preferred.

The end quote “what does the brain matter compared to the heart?”really summarises well the novel and is a nice conclusion to all the divagations presented throughout the book.

I just felt like the narrative was too jumpy and I would have preferred a more restrained number of characters to get the time to deep dive into them rather than hear a lot of different POVs from secondary characters about the main protagonists. It’s an interesting exploration of mental health but it’s also not focused enough of it due to some of the frivolities taking precedence in the plot over deeper thoughts and feelings.

It has all the ingredients to be a book I would love and I could be obsessed with but the mix just didn’t do it for me. I feel mostly disappointed and was quite bored throughout unfortunately…
