The Glass Woman
by Caroline Lea
When I read a book with an unfamiliar setting, I hope to actually learn something about the place, the time period, the people. This book is set in Iceland in the late 1600s, but the story could happen anywhere, in a number of time periods. I don't think I learned anything, really.
I haven't even seen the book, so I don't know what most of the names and places look like, but I did look at a map of Iceland (to see how close it actually is to Denmark) and I think the place I thought sounded like sticky summer is spelled Stykkisholmur, so I'm pretty sure I would have had trouble with most of the names/places and it's probably best that I listened to the audiobook. Also, the narrators were really good, so the audio was the best part of the book anyway.
