First of all: no.

Eadlyn is a spoiled, arrogant brat with the self-awareness of a mayfly. How did Maxon and America, of all people, raise her like this? America should remember perfectly well where she came from, even if the caste system no longer exists. Yes, I get it – she’s meant to be unbearable so we can all watch her miraculous character growth in the final book. But knowing that didn’t make it any less unpleasant to read.

And then she’s the sole reason the monarchy is supposedly on the verge of being overthrown, yet her parents refuse to acknowledge it and won’t even call her out? Seriously?

What makes it worse is the wasted potential from where book three left off: rebels allying with the monarchy, the caste system abolished, the royal couple finding their footing – all of it could have been rich, political, and fascinating. Instead, we get 400 pages of Eadlyn’s “I’m so powerful and amazing.”

Frustrating? Absolutely. Am I still going to read the last book? …Yes.
