I was so hyped after reading this book that I gave it 5 stars. But with a couple of days away and a little more rational thinking, I'm bumping it down to 4. I enjoyed the hell out of it, but it wouldn't stand on its own merit. There were a lot of callbacks and references and fan-service moments that would mean absolutely nothing to someone who just picked up this duology and wanted to enjoy it.
As a returning fan, I love Nikolai and Zoya. I love seeing Nina get her spy on. I'm here for character cameos. I would highly recommend this duology to any Grishaverse fan.
