From the moment I read the first page, I was hooked. The characters are quick witted & sharp tongued, making the banter some of the best I’ve read in awhile. The imagery is spectacular — Newham, and its Nightmares, came alive in full technicolor right in my brain. The action was jam packed, setting my heart racing with fear & excitement.
This story delves into the concept of fear and the control we give it over our lives. Our FMC suffers from intense PTSD as a result of her sister being changed (and subsequently murdering their father), an aspect that was portrayed thoughtfully well and was my favorite part of her development.
I could absolutely not put this down and it will certainly go down as one of my favorite reads this year. Perfect for anyone who enjoys gritty fantasy/scifi/horror along the backdrop of fighting a corrupt society.
