Fire Night
by Penelope Douglas
I really wanted to give this one four stars, I really did. I absolutely adore William Grayson III - he's probably my favorite Horseman (my sweetie pie honey bun) - and I devoured this 700+ page story in less than 24 hours, but this book was really just... not it. Emory was a very irritating character at times. Of course, I rooted for her when push came to shove, because she WAS the main character, but her personality was kind of horrible. I mean, all you really need to know is that she lied and sent her first love to prison because she wanted to take care of her DYING grandmother. LiKE EXCUSE ME??? Just let granny die, girl! You're sending an innocent man to prison (not technically innocent because he did beat the fuck out of her abusive brother), but she lied and said that Will hurt HER because she wanted money to take care of granny. How do you justify that???? And then she goes back and forth feeling sorry for herself and hating herself for LITERALLY ever. Like just accept the blame and move the FUCK on. The only good thing about the plot (TRULY) was Will. He can do no wrong in my eyes. His innocence as a teenager was so sweet, and the fact that he became a hardened grump after what Emory did to him was HOT. Every time his tattoos were mentioned I let out an audible moan. He is my sugar plum fairy baby girl!! Anyway - Penelope Douglas is an excellent writer in all the ways that matter, which is really what saved this book. She created an interesting universe with the Devil's Night series, but this book only gets three stars because Emory's personality ruined this one. I was also hoping for more smut, but I digress... I do plan on reading the last novella (I don't know when), but I'm hoping for a lot of spice and a lot of William Grayson (also more Winter and Damon). Thankful that I finally bit the bullet and read this book because William Grayson is now at the top of my book boyfriend list. Thank you, Penelope Douglas, for writing the perfect man, but you should've made his love interest less annoying!!!
