Pretty Face by Lucy Parker

2.0

2.5 stars.

Pretty Face is a bland, inoffensive contemporary romance. When I started the book I was excited not only to dive into the relationship between our h/hr, but to immerse myself in the world of stage acting. Instead, the book glosses over details and only presents as much information as necessary, and that was the way I felt about the plot and the romance as well.

The build-up (from frenemies to friends to lovers) between the two protagonists feel perfunctory, and the attraction stilted and awkward. Bad books can be saved if the chemistry between the leads are explosive enough--in fact, I'd prefer a bad book with a sort of addictive quality to it than a boring one--but there's no real chemistry between Luc and Lily.

Despite the high stakes world of West End stage production serving as its backdrop, in the end all Pretty Face manages to do is serve up a lukewarm romance with a lukewarm setting, and even lukewarm sex.

Will not be revisiting this one (or checking out the other books in the series) anytime soon.
