Soul of the Deep
by Natasha Bowen
A solid sequel to Skin of the Sea. I appreciated the character development in Simi, the depth of the lore of West African mythology as the anti-gods were introduced, the semi-redemption of Esu and Olokun. I would've enjoyed being able to get to know all the other Mami Wata, but I did like that Folasade was included in this book. Like in Skin of the Sea I did almost immediately guess the "big twist", but that still didn't detract from the enjoyment of this book. My only bigger complaint is that it felt like the ending was wrapped up almost too neatly? Maybe that's just me being salty (lol) that it seems like there won't be another one after this.
