What can I say about this book. First off I like the story and I think it had the potential to be a 5 star read. The writing however (it’s not bad!) it just reads like a book at a 6th grade level. The writing feels very surface level and by the end of the book I felt like a lot of plot happened but the character development was greatly lacking. Also the book gave so much away without us working for it. Something would be discussed and then the next sentence would give it away. It was somehow spoon fed and not at the same time because details were lacking.
For example someone calls the mmc your highness and then the fmc immediately knows he’s a prince of the territory. It would have been a cool reveal later at least for the reader.
the twist was great but looking back at what I read something just did not feel right throughout the book. Things happened too fast and the FMC was a little too easy to convince and accepting of things without questions.
With the twist this makes sense since she is not in the dark at all, but the reader does not know that so it just felt off the whole time.

I think it is a good story and different from other books in terms of plot. It kept my attention. It just needed a little more character depth and more believable behaviors. Unreliable narrators do not make sense in this case. The plot twist did not make sense since it was first person narrated.

Expect:
- training
- one horse
- one bed
- betrayal
- mystery
- adventure
- hidden power

Overall: 3.5/5 for story
Writing: 2.5/5
Character development: 1/5
Spice: 1.5/5

I plan to read book 2
