The Book of Blood and Roses exceeded my every expectation and proved me a fool tbh. While I love some lesbian vampires and dark academia, the blurb felt a little too YA for my tastes and the beginning read like a YA book as well. But, some friends had given it a high rating so I trusted their taste and stuck it out. I'm so glad I did!

While there may not have been much in the way of cat and mouse games between Rebecca/Cassie and Aliz, I did find this take on the vampire hunter x vampire romance to be intriguing – and fun! Rebecca downright hating Aliz with a fiery passion, and being unable to do anything about it, while Aliz was just vaguely annoyed by her? And then tack on a magical Familiar blood bond?? I ate it up.

The beginning was a little bumpy but the ending was solid and the side characters were just as delightful and interesting as our main two, I even found myself falling in love with a character I didn't expect to.

Can't wait to read the second book, even the first isn't even released yet!
