Plenty of cool and interesting and scary stuff happens, but there seems to be so much time between those things that everything gets forgotten by the time the next thing happens.
One bugbear I have with this book in particular is that it kept doing medium flashbacks.
Like, it would have a scene in an office or something, then cut to later on in the parking lot, then flashback to what happened after the character left the office while on their way to the parking lot, then cut to being at home, then a flashback to the drive and what they saw on their way home.
