Gothic fantasy about a 16 year old girl returning to London from India after her mother dies/is murdered under mysterious and supernatural circumstances. Gemma is put in a finishing school to hopefully get married or else become a governess to the children of some rich family. A good read about the strictures that women and girls had to adhere to in Victorian England. Probably will take a break between this and the next book though.
