A little more character driven than the previous Hainish book. I thought Rolery made an excellent protagonist--someone from the more "backward" culture (the Hainish novels are all focused on the relationship between indigenous peoples and the stranded remnants of the advanced 'League of Worlds') that bridged the two worlds nicely (being an outsider in her own community).
