God's Wisdom for Women: Topical Scripture and Encouragement by Patricia Miller, Rachel Gorman

5.0

"God's Wisdom for Women" is a simple topical guide to Bible verses on subjects related to being a woman, and a follower of Jesus. It is designed for practical use, with clear headings, plenty of margin space for notes, and spiral-bound for practicality. There are inspiring quotes next to the verses, and a list of suggestions for further reading on the subject at the end of each section. I see this book as being a sort of "field guide," flipping to it for suggestions of where to head next in my walk with Christ, both in Scripture, and in further reading. There were a few subjects that I wished were covered in more depth, such as vocation and work, but I was impressed at the number of categories included. My favorite parts were when the author included a personal note of how God had spoken to her through a particular verse, and I would have loved to see more of that and less quotes from other authors on the subject. The subject of "mothering" caught my interest right away, being a mother of small children, and I loved some of the unexpected verses they chose to include. One was Ephesians 2:10, which I have read many times, but never in the context of motherhood. It launched me on a further study of what "good works that God prepared for us" would mean. A book that inspires me to read more of the Bible, and opens my mind to thinking of familiar Scriptures in new ways is one that I value and will use often.
