Deception Point
by Dan Brown
I just finished a Master Class taught by Dan Brown on writing, and he mentioned he'd written a book set in the arctic circle. I'm writing one set in Antarctica so I looked it up and gave it a try. He's such an amazing writer, but I just can't stomach his topics, his politics, his religion, and what he seems to try to pass off as scientific fact... this is at least the second book of his that I couldn't finish just because I was too annoyed. In this case it was due to his pushing not just evolution, but panspermia (the idea that, since there isn't enough time on earth for evolution to have occurred, life here was 'seeded' by aliens, where somehow evolution was able to have occurred because maybe there was dramatically more time?). Such a preposterous idea. Only people desperately trying to avoid the conclusion that there's a God would ever subscribe to it.
