A lot of people have tried to compare this to Harry Potter, and HP has had such a widespread influence that any kid in any school with magical goings-on is going to be compared to it, but this is quite a different story entirely. It stands completely on its own, with a unique cast and set of relationships.
I liked it. I would probably like it more if I were 12, but that's not the author's fault. It was a satisfying read (listen) for a day off of work, and I'll go through the rest of series to see how Charlie ends up.
