I love Scaredy Squirrel! -but I think he would be very hard to read for a story time. It might be fun to try, though. The humor would be appreciated by elementary school age children. I can imagine a lot of commenting on what's happening being added to the story.
In this book Scaredy Squirrel decides he wants a friend but is afraid of anything that might bite. That doesn't leave much besides a fish. (boring). Scaredy finally realizes that a dog will make a good friend even though he has teeth.
