Shelter
by Harlan Coben
Coben enters the Young Adult book market with this story of Myron Bolitar's nephew, Mickey. Following his father's death and mother's subsequent descent into addiction, Mickey is under Myron's loose guardianship. As the new kid in school, Mickey draws attention by standing up for the unpopular kids. He draws the attention of cute girl, too. When she mysteriously disappears, Mickey enlists the help of two new friends, but not Uncle Myron, to investigate. He uncovers a dangerous operation, gets beaten up, and finds an unexpected link to his parents' past. Coben always creates likable characters and his writing for teens is readable without being juvenile.
