Bookish and the Beast by Ashley Poston

3.0

“Because, you see, my mom loved books and Dad still loves books, and so I do, too.

But there is so much more in those words than just loving books. I love the smell of them. I love the way their bindings look pressed together on a shelf. I love the feel of pages buzzing through my fingers. I love big books and small books. I love words and how they’re strung together, and most of all, I love the stories. I love how books are not really just books at all, but doorways.” - Ashley Poston, Bookish and the Beast

This was one of those books that I really enjoyed even though I know that there isn’t really anything spectacular about it. Bookish and the Beast was lighthearted and full of nerdy things. I really enjoyed Rosie’s love for books! It’s something I know every bookish person can relate to, and I feel like Ashley Poston captures it really well.

My biggest issue with this book is the plot. There just really wasn’t much going on. This book felt drawn out for the first 90% and then the ending felt rushed and abrupt. I also felt zero chemistry between the love interests! They really spend most of the book avoiding each other and then the scenes where they’re finally getting to know each other are glossed over and rushed. So of course I don’t really understand how they even work as a couple.

I think the main reason I enjoyed this book despite everything wrong with it was because Ashley Poston’s writing is surprisingly addicting. I heard someone say that she writes the way fangirls speak and I can’t think of a better way to describe her writing.
