The Ten Thousand Doors of January
by Alix E. Harrow
Probably a 2.5 rounded up. Maybe it's just that any book I read after Gideon the Ninth was gonna be a bit of a drip, but...this was just a bit tedious. I found certain elements of the story interesting, but it also felt done. I wasn't into the protagonist. I rolled my eyes at her a lot. It was so much of stuff happening TO her for a while that I was so bored. I was more interested in the worldbuilding -- which never really amounts to anything substantial. On the other hand, I can totally see why it speaks to people. It has an ethereal quality to it. But it wasn't for me.
