I found it a bit weird to stick in a prequel in the middle of a story, but no matter. The only thing there is to say about this book is that it's boring. It steps away from the post-apocalyptic world DuPrau created in the first two books into a world we are all familiar with, but the transition isn't really consequential to the original story at all until the last 10 pages of the book. Furthermore, the main character is annoyingly unrealistic, it took away from her conflicts and I found myself feeling pretty indifferent to the story overall. There were some good moments though and there are easy parallels to be made to the real world, I think I would've liked this book a little more had it followed the original story rather than break it up. Hopefully the final book continues on it's tracks, I'm hoping that some of the content from this book at least carries over.
