Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao
5.0
Wow I let this sit on my shelves for way too long! I knew I would love it when I read the first chapter but finally sitting down to read it these last couple days.... this book is so good.
I felt such strength in being a woman reading this book I wanted to tear down the patriarchy myself. Feminism and gender equality or the lack thereof being one of the core themes of this book and not being subtle about it was very refreshing. It felt very cohesive with the plotline of "this is fucked up and we're not going to hide it anymore" and I loved the unapologetic nature of it all.
The prose is really strong and showed an excellent balance of beautiful and flowy metaphors and descriptions to clean and direct writing describing battle scenes which I feel was very intentional with the duality of yin and yeng in this book.
Lastly the relationships and male characters were fleshed out so well. Such healthy masculinity from both male leads and even the mentor had positive moments. I rooted for every single relationship in this book and was so happy with how it turned out I was kicking my feet.
Cannot wait for the sequel in December!
