There is 1 pervasive change in perspective that the writer looks to impress upon the reader - the Umwelt, the idea that different species have different perspectives and ways of interpreting reality. The rest of the book is essentially a big nature documentary that covers cool and interesting new facts about animals being discovered by biologists over the last couple of centuries, categorized by the 11 or 12 different senses. It's interesting, and you learn a lot of cool little facts about animals, gaining an increased appreciation for how different animals might perceive the world.
