danielle_vitale 's review for:
Bellewether
by Susanna Kearsley
This book wasn't even on my radar, honestly. I went on the Libby app to borrow a book that had a tremendously long wait and this was a recommended alternate for me. I liked the cover so I gave it a shot. And wow, am I glad I did! I thought the prose was powerful and beautiful.
The story is told in two timelines: the 1700s (during the Seven Years War) and in modern times. Charlotte (aka: Charley) is the primary first person narrator in the "now" sections of the book, and the "then" chapters are split between Lydia and Jean-Philipe, both written in third person.
The story is part mystery, part supernatural, part romance, and a lot of historical fiction. It just...spoke to me. I loved it. One of my favorite reads of the year so far.
