The Return of the King is a beautiful and fitting conclusion to Tolkien’s masterpiece. Andy Serkis’s narration was outstanding. His ability to embody each character and make them feel like individuals made the story feel immediate and alive.
What captivated me most was Sam’s journey. His quiet growth, his courage, and hiswillingness to sacrifice everything for Frodo were deeply moving. In many ways, he felt like the true hero of the tale. I was also struck by the Mouth of Sauron (who was left out of the movies), who embodied a chilling, almost tangible form of evil that I found more unsettling than even Sauron or the Witch King.
That said, this was the book I connected with least. Oncethe Ring was destroyed at Mount Doom - a moment that felt like the true climax - the story kinda dragged on. The extended resolution, while important in tying up threads, felt drawn out and sometimes tedious after such an intense peak.
Even so, this is still a masterful ending to one of the greatest stories ever told - full of courage, sacrifice, and the enduring hope that even the smallest person can change the course of the future.
