The Wrath & the Dawn by Renée Ahdieh
3.0

If you have read "one thousand and one nights" there is a high chance that you won't be surprised easily with this one. The book followed mainly the same pattern as the original story, in terms of the plot and the tales which Shahrazad told every night, but of course, there are numerous other new things as well such as magic.

The writing was simple and therefore super easy to follow however, I have the feeling that it got a bit messy towards the end, as it felt a bit haste. You could clearly see the intention of the writer to create a second book for the series and because of that, towards the end, things got a bit sloppy.

The characters are lovable for sure and I loved their development as the story progressed, especially the one Khalid had. That man carried the whole book. His development along with the sweet moments he gave us, is the sole reason I'm giving it a 3 and not a 2.75. The reason why I'm settling for that rating is that I'd like to see more original stuff and not just the same pattern of the classic along with a few new stuff.

Also, another thing I want to mention is a discussion between the MC Shahrazad and Musa, when he advised her to stay with a man who (up until that point) was known to be violent and cruel, because "she could fix him" and because |there were good qualities in him that people couldn't see".
Let me clarify something, especially to the young readers (the target audience of the book). Women, or any person really, should never stay in a toxic, let alone a violent relationship, in hopes that the other person will change. You cannot fix them. You're not their therapist. The only thing you can do when you're tangled in this kind of situation is to find a way to leave. Do not expect them to change, because they rarely do and the only thing you do by staying is to show them that could be even crueller towards you the next time. A lot of people are way past redemption and sometimes this is how it is, so don't stay in a relationship where you feel threatened and unsafe and don't you ever listen to people who know the whole story and advice you to stay.

Having said that, I'll say that I'll read the second book as well, hoping that it'll be a bit more original than the first. Also, for your information, this book ends on a cliffhanger and a good one at that so don't be like me and have the second book bought already.
