The Emperor's Bone Palace by Hailey Turner
4.0
4.5/5

The Emperor’s Bone palace is book 2 in the Infernal War Saga and it picks up right where book 1, The Prince’s Poisoned Vow, left off. Right from the beginning the pace was quick and it stayed that way through the entire book. Since book 1 laid the foundation of the world and gave us a background of the characters, book 2 was able to focus more on the present, which I really enjoyed.
What I Liked:
The relationships. Each one is distinct and unique in their own way. Honovi and Blaine are my favorite couple in this series, hands down. The devolution that Honovi has for Blaine, even after the events that transpire in this story, is heartwarming and it made me love reading his POV. Caris and Nathaniel have some struggles and I am interested to see how their relationship plays out. Of course Soren and Vanya are full of delicious tension and I really hope that they can resolve some things come the third book.
The plot. The plot in this book was fantastic. The pacing was on point, things I think I knew turned out to be wrong, and there were surprises around each corner that I didn't see coming. I feel like the plot flowed so well and it made me invested in wanting to know what was going to happen.
Some questionable things for me:
Eimarille. I am on the fence about her. I REALLY hope that we get a redemption arc but I don’t know at this point. Also, because she has few POVs, in both books, it’s hard for me to get a read on if she has redeemable qualities or not. But I give Turner props for writing a character like her.
Overall, this book exceeded my expectations. I enjoyed book 1 but loved book 2. The build up from book 1 was very much worth it for this book. I can’t wait to see where the story goes.
