I've been looking forward to Oaken's story since we met him. This sweet, earnest alien wants a wife more than anything. When a ship crash lands on his property and out steps the most beautiful human woman he's ever seen, he instantly knows she's the one for him. Jaya needs to fix her ship, but to stay on the penal colony, she has to be married... enter the marriage of convenience where (shocker) she very quickly discovers Oaken is the ideal golden retriever man with a heart of gold.

As much as I enjoyed their story, I felt like this book was so short that the pacing struggled as a result. Perhaps there wasn't as much world-building to do, perhaps this was just a story Dax could convey in more of a novella-length story, but I just couldn't connect with Jaya and the overall story as much as I really wanted to given how much I love Oaken from previous books. I still ate this up like popcorn, and I'm sat for however many other books Dax can write in this series, selfishly I just hope they're longer so we have more time for character and relationship development.
