"All good stories travel from the outside in."

I rated this before I finished the last 25 pages, & added it to my favorite books of 2025 list when I still had just less than 100 pages left.

"I change your shape in my thoughts. It’s amazing how much blue there is in the world, if you look. You’re different colors of flame: Bismuth burns blue, and cerium, germanium, and arsenic. See? I pour you into things." ... "It’s not that I never noticed before how many red things there are in the world. It’s that they were never any more relevant to me than green or white or gold. Now it’s as if the whole world sings to me in petals, feathers, pebbles, blood."

What to say when I want to just scream, "READ THIS BOOK!!" (or, ya know, listen to it - the audio was great!)

"But when I think of you, I want to be alone together. I want to strive against and for. I want to live in contact. I want to be a context for you, and you for me. I love you, and I love you, and I want to find out what that means together."

This book is poetic, & heartbreakingly beautiful. It has me debating the idea that perhaps I am a romantic, under the right circumstances.

"I love you. I love you. I love you. I’ll write it in waves. In skies. In my heart. You’ll never see, but you will know. I’ll be all the poets, I’ll kill them all and take each one’s place in turn, and every time love’s written in all the strands it will be to you. But never again like this." (Swoon.)

You don't need me to tell you what the book's about: the blurb did that. (Warring time agents, love letters sprinkled in time.) All I can tell you is how it made me feel, & it did make me feel, intensely, with tears. I'm kicking myself for having it on my TBR for over 2 ½ yrs, & it took only 24 hours of casual reading to destroy me in a wonderful way.

"I want to meet you in every place I have loved."

Representation: sapphic romantic relationship

"We’re all deviant in our different ways. Is that hunger? I don’t know."

"I hope you never read these words. I sicken to write them; I know how it will hurt you to reach this far. It is always too late to say what must be said."
