The Man Who Broke Capitalism: How Jack Welch Gutted the Heartland and Crushed the Soul of Corporate America—and How to Undo His Legacy by David Gelles
5.0
Outstanding overview of a true villain. I was one of many students who were semi-indoctrinated in the late 90’s/early 2000’s of the incredible world that Welch had created - fed case studies in grad school about shareholder value, profit maximization above all else and other myths that are well covered in this book. Little did people know at the time what was set in motion were the levers that were going to diminish a once great company due to the short sightedness of Welch and others like him that sprouted in the 80’s and led to the hollowing out of industry in the US. Brilliantly and concisely captured here.
