I read the "text" version of this book after I read the graphic novel version, because my cousin reads the graphic novels. To review this book alone without comparison to the graphic novel, I thought this was so good. Even though it appears to be middle grade fiction, I think it would be suited even lot for folks who like YA. I would've loved this in middle school, and I seriously enjoyed it as an adult too. I couldn't believe the prophecy, conspiracy, violence, and dark images found in this book; I don't mention that in a negative way either. You go in thinking this is a fun dragon adventure and then it gets so deep. I understand why my 4th-5th grade cousin felt like she wasn't ready to read this because of how dark even the prologue is. But this book has even more depth and detail into the characters and the lore than even the first graphic novel had. Now as I continue the graphic novels, I'm wondering how they're going to include some detail revealed in the actual book and missed in the first graphic novel down the line... I loved this.
