Save the Cat!: The Last Book on Screenwriting You'll Ever Need by Blake Snyder

5.0

This book was fantastic!

I like the voice of the author coming through, it’s not just an educational text told in monotones, it’s a mentor colorfully sharing his knowledge.

It was incredibly eye opening and made it easy to understand the different genres that aren’t just “romantic comedy”, or “thriller”. My favorite turns out is Monster in the House and he used some of my most favorite films, Alien, Jaws, Jurassic Park, and Tremors.

He used Legally Blonde to effectively show how important the B story should be, and Miss Congeniality to show the story beats and answering story questions. Now I know exactly why I like watching those movies over and over but not the Toby McGuire Spiderman.

It was very very fun and you can totally read this for novel writing purposes too, the only really helpful thing the novel writing version adds to it is the five part finale break down.
