This book taught me alot about the history of colonialism in Algeria and the fate of the harkis caught between Algeria and France and not quite belonging to either. Told with compassionate and great insight. The pacing didn't quite work for me and found the protagonist Naima to be the least compelling of all the characters, hence the lower rating. But a fantastic book nonetheless and one I would recommend to anyone who wants to learn more about this period of history and the lives of the people caught up in it.
