Gregor the Overlander is a good book all in all! The age range is a little younger than I would usually read when looking for books, but I thought I would give it a go based on my love of The Hunger Games series by the same author.

Book one in the Underland Chronicles, I can say with certainty I will be reading more of the series (in fact, I've already started book 2!). The first book has the main protagonist Gregor with his little sister Boots, fall into the 'Underland' and discover a prophecy that transpires to focus on him and his father, who has been missing for over 2 years.

I wont give away the whole story, but I thought it was well written overall, some of the plot points I realised slightly before they were uncovered, but others did come as a surprise! Including the big twist towards the end (again, no spoilers!). That I really enjoyed, and I think it was hidden well, while still giving hints throughout in the lead up. The only inkling that I had leading up to it was a sense that things were going too well for the characters!

In terms of negatives of the book, I cant actually think of a lot. I think my main issue was a slight frustration with the MC, but then, he is only eleven years old!

I am rating it five stars, as I honestly can't find fault aside from that. I debated a four star, and would have done 4.5 if I could have (or if I could have justified it), but I think a five star is justified considering the target audience and the book itself together.
